This graduate project was based on an actual site and client specifications in St. Lucia of the Lesser Antilles. Major constraints for the project was the extreme and varied topography as well as the numerous features to be included on the site. The design theme was developed from the Fiddler Crab found on the island and different uses of the site, like the different sizes of the little crab's chelipeds (claws).
Conceptual design drawings of some unique destinations at "Le Crabe Violeneux." Featured are the Cabana Rooms with swim-up restaurant, the beach front restaurant with waterslide passing beneath, the spa's infinity pool filled with tropical fish, a typical tiki overlook shelter, the view from a honeymoon cabana's porch showing the private plung pools and a view across the resort's wooden dock reflecting St. Lucia's architectural style.
Shown is the "Glissad" entering the main pool as it passes under a bridge near the gazebo. Guests can enjoy exploring the mystery of the "Plage du Pitons" pool with the unique swim through rock/rock cave as they look for the hidden signature fiddler crabs hidden throughout the complex. The "Glissad" exits the pool through a pirate's themed area, featuring cave entrance and a surprise attack from water cannons at the curve of the pirate's lair before exiting at the resort's private beach.

The Morris/Maynard Home was repurposing and design of an small, existing residential back yard. Meeting with the clients' wishes of being able to entertain in this space, several intimate areas were created with different feels. The design includes an outdoor kitchen with bar space, wooden foot bridge over a stream bed, rock waterfall into a koi pond with an elevated dining area that overlooks the site.
The Watts Family were new residents to Florida and wanted a back yard that celebrated the subtropical climate they now lived in and being able to be outdoors and active for most of the year. Taking a cue from the existing mangroves along the back of the property, a resort style pool is created that transitions from formal to informal. Specific views are created across the pool using specimen plants, large curved trunk palms and a proposed tiki hut with picnic area. The pool includes a rock waterfall and tropical spa.
This design has been maintained by the home owners and has grown into maturity. The lower level plantings have flourished and there are several layers of texture and color. This property was able to survive the lower temperatures of the community because it is on the more delicate plants in the front are on the leeward side of the home and therefore, they were in a unique microclimate and have done quite well.

"Le Crabe Violeneux," or "The Fiddler Crab," is a educational activity proposed for a real site/client proposal submitted to a local firm. This project allowed for many creative design solutions to the program and plenty of resort settings. The history of the island's crab was used for the tropical theme of the site. The architecture style is reflective of the island's dominant styles and the main resort area capitalizes on the two dominant mountains of the tiny island--"Le Grande Pitons."

residential design

These plans were for a design/build firm located in Odessa, Florida. The designs shown were created according to client wishes and feature redesigning and reprogramming of existing landscapes in and around Tampa as well as landscape designs for new residential homes under construction located in the Waterchase Development (in Lutz, Florida).
This plan is for the redesign of Griffin Chapel on the Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida. The existing building lacked a clear entrance, had partial landscaping and randomly placed memorials. The new Master Plan reconfigures the existing pavement in front of the building, offers a Memorial Garden and incorporates plantings to anchor the 1970's modernistic building in the surrounding landscape. Also included are plantings that span the gap to the parking area and new way-finding signs.
The USF Joint Military Science Leadership Building is the home for the national model of education for all branches of Reserve Officers Training Program. This unique program allows cadets to receive a multi-dimensional education in a joint military strategic atmosphere. The grounds includes a hall of flags, memorial entry path with fountain and colorful plantings to reflect the military colors of all branches of service.
In this perspective of the central plaza, the main fountain and the pergola can clearly be seen. The closeness of the bosc of trees and the juxtaposition of the open space is also made apparent.
