my philosophy

what does Landscape Architecture mean to me?

It means a chance to truly be a “steward of the land” (a role I take very seriously) and to protect, preserve, enhance and bring understanding to our environment.  It allows me to use my science background and have the creative outlet that I need.

This profession is the perfect marriage of art and science!  I want to create spaces that are sustainable, environmentally responsible and make use of the natural elements of that place.  This means not only putting the “right plant in the right place.” but putting the RIGHT DESIGN in the right place.

What is the "right design?"  It is a design that reflects the "genus loci" of the land.  The "right design" creates a sense of wonder, curiosity and disovery that pull people through a space by focusing on nature in a highly designed,

man-made manner or by artistically using natural materials to enhance what is already present.  If done correctly, the plan can evoke emotions connecting people to the space that brings them back time and time again!  It is a space where people want to be!

I truly enjoy the many aspects of the profession--from large scale land planning to designing small residential landscapes.  Each project offers me a chance to create enjoyable spaces.

My personal goals include becoming a Registered Landscape Architect as well as LEED certified. I am interested in continuing to further my professional knowledge and gaining certifications that will enhance not only my design skills but also assist a firm in furthering its overall goals.
